ABSTRACT
This study provides a detailed appraisal of stakeholders’ perceptions regarding the roles of Arab embassies in enhancing Arabic education in Lagos State. The investigation explores how these diplomatic entities influence Arabic education through various initiatives and evaluates their effectiveness. Using a structured questionnaire with a Likert scale format, the study gathered data from 270 respondents, including students, teachers, educational administrators, and policymakers. The findings reveal a generally positive perception of Arab embassies’ contributions to Arabic education. Stakeholders appreciate the embassies' role in promoting the Arabic language, improving educational quality through workshops and seminars, and enhancing teachers' effectiveness. Notably, initiatives like cultural exchange programs and scholarships have positively impacted student interest and academic performance. However, the study also identifies several challenges, including issues with resource provision, collaboration with local institutions, cultural and language barriers, bureaucratic obstacles, and funding limitations. The results suggest that while the initiatives by Arab embassies are effective and valued, there are significant areas for improvement. Recommendations for Arab embassies include enhancing resource provision, strengthening collaborations with local educational institutions, addressing cultural and language barriers, streamlining bureaucratic processes, and increasing funding. For educational policymakers in Lagos State, recommendations include supporting collaborations with foreign entities, promoting Arabic education, addressing bureaucratic challenges, investing in teacher training, and increasing awareness of available programs. The study also identifies several areas for further research, including longitudinal studies on the impact of initiatives, comparative analyses with other regions, in-depth case studies, and investigations into the impact of cultural exchange programs. These insights provide a comprehensive understanding of the current state of Arabic education in Lagos State and offer practical guidance for improving the effectiveness of educational initiatives facilitated by Arab embassies.
